Ferry routes
- Tarifa – Tangier Ville: the most convenient for foot passengers, arriving in central Tangier, about 1 hour.
- Algeciras – Tanger Med: the busiest route, popular with drivers; Tanger Med is about 40 km east of Tangier, about 1.5 hours.
- Algeciras – Ceuta: about 1 hour to the Spanish city of Ceuta; you then cross the land border into Morocco at Fnideq, near Tetouan.
- Almería and Málaga – Nador or Melilla: longer crossings for eastern Morocco.
Passport checks for Morocco usually take place on board, so look for the police desk soon after departure. In summer, especially during Operation Crossing the Strait (Marhaba) in July and August, ferries are very busy; book ahead.
